Kinship Care Story: Helping a Maine Grandmother Keep Her Granddaughter Dancing
Step Up Parents often helps families more than once. Don’t feel like you can’t apply again if you’ve already received assistance. We’re happy to be a resource multiple times.
This has been the case for the Bergeron family, one of the first kinship families we helped after expanding into Southern Maine. Devon Bergeron is a wonderful person and grandmother who is raising her two grandchildren. We recently helped Devon pay for dance lessons for her granddaughter.
“My granddaughter enjoys dancing, which is one way she handles her anxiety,” Devon wrote to us. “But for me, it is an expense I just don’t have the money for.”
We were grateful to help make those lessons possible. As Devon told us, “Thank you!!! This helps me out tremendously!”
Earlier this summer, Devon’s granddaughter attended camp through the generosity of our partners at Lantern Light Camps.
We are truly grateful to get to help families like Devon’s provide enrichment opportunities like dance lessons for the kids they’re raising. These kinds of opportunities can be a huge source of comfort, connection, and positivity in a child’s life.
