February 2026
February has arrived with freezing temperatures, heavy snow, and the kind of winter weather that puts extra strain on kinship families. For caregivers already stretching limited resources, the cold months can be especially challenging. That’s when community support matters most.
In this issue, you’ll meet Tiffany, whose love and determination kept her sisters together through adoption; learn about important policy news that could expand childcare access for retired grandparents; and see how your generosity is helping keep families safe and warm through our Winter Stability Campaign. We’re also sharing updates on scholarships, support groups, and ways to get involved as we continue showing up for kinship caregivers across New Hampshire and Southern Maine.
Kinship Care Story: Keeping Sisters Together Through Love and Courage
Kinship caregivers often step in quietly, driven by love, not resources. Tiffany became the permanent caregiver for her two younger sisters to keep them together and safe. After gaining custody, becoming a licensed foster parent, and ultimately adopting both girls to keep them together, Tiffany faced a new reality: the foster stipend ended, expenses kept coming, and stability felt just out of reach. Still, she kept showing up: cheering on the sidelines, protecting her sisters, and building a future one hard day at a time.
With a little support from Step Up Parents at a critical moment, Tiffany was reminded that she matters too.
