Portsmouth Herald: How Step Up Parents helped a York grandmother keep the lights on for her grandkids
EXCERPT FROM THE PORTSMOUTH HERALD
YORK, Maine — Devon Bergeron was in a tight spot and needed help.
With the costs of utilities on the rise, Bergeron had an electric bill that she could not afford to pay. As a single grandmother raising her two grandchildren, she keeps a tight budget and works fewer hours than she would like.
Life can get that way. Despite our best efforts at juggling finances and responsibilities, the time comes when we are faced with that one big bill we cannot pay.
Bergeron did not want her grandchildren to end up in the dark. Fortunately, she knew who to contact: Step Up Parents, the New Hampshire-based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping grandparents who are raising their grandchildren as one of their children deals with substance-related issues.
