Kinship Care Story: France and Avah
Avah at summer camp in 2024.
France is a 64-year-old grandmother raising her two granddaughters, 19 and 13, after their mother's substance use disorder led to a stroke, rendering her disabled.
Step Up Parents was able to provide assistance to France and her granddaughter, Avah, allowing her to attend summer camp this year.
France shared his gratitude: "Thank you so much for the assistance. I am very grateful for any kind of assistance I can get. This is Avah's favorite place in the world. All she talks about is going to overnight camp, and without the help of organizations like yours I would never be able to do this for her. So again, thank you for the part you've played in helping Avah get to camp this summer."
In 2024, Step Up Parents helped France pay for Avah to join a swim team. Avah shared her own thank you note to us, which you can read here.
